The voting process of the Newton Kansan Athletes of the Week for Week 3 of the winter sports season has opened.

This week’s nominees are:
Boys

Maddox Williams, junior, Newton High School, basketball. Scored 28 points in two games, including 22 points in a 67-52 win over Salina Central to snap a 14-game losing streak in league play.

Bear Moddelmog, senior, Moundridge High School, basketball. Scored 43 points, 10 rebounds, seven assists and four steals in two wins.

Brayden Large, sophomore, Hesston, wrestling. Finished 2-0 at the 15th annual Marion County Duals with two wins by pin.
Girls

Kaci Young, junior, Halstead High School, basketball. Scored 28 points in two Dragon wins, including a 37-28 win over second-ranked (Class 2A) Hillsboro.

Delaney Duerksen, freshman, Goessel High School, basketball. Scored 12 points with eight rebounds in 52-15 win over Douglass.

Brooklyn Treaster, sophomore, Newton High School, wrestling. Placed second at the Basehor-Linwood Ladycat Classic at 105 pounds at 4-1. Treaster is 8-2 for the season.
Voting is open until midnight Sunday and winners will be announced in the Jan. 4 Kansan.
Nominees are selected from results reported to the Kansan as well as culled from various sports statistics sites.
