Six children are tucked in bed while I listen to the birds waking each other with their morning song. It’s Saturday morning in Knox County, Ohio. Yesterday we enjoyed traveling as a family, today we want to go see my widowed grandmother in Holmes County, Ohio.
In a legislative session marked by its brevity, Kansas lawmakers managed to pass an impressive 116 bills. This makes 2025 a productive year for the state’s legislature. But while this productivity could suggest functional governance, a closer look reveals a shift in the balance of power that raises questions about the state of checks and balances in Topeka.
