A winter storm system blew through Harvey County in the overnight hours of Feb. 11 and 12, dumping enough snow to force school closures and a late opening of the Harvey County Courthouse.

Two years ago, then new county commissioner Becky Reimer asked for read only access to the county accounting software system, looking for more “oversight” in monitoring the invoices paid by the county. Those invoices are approved by the county commission at each meeting of the commission. At the time, she was unsuccessful in gaining that access.
A more than $5 million project to renovate the secondary runway at the Newton City/County Airport has been working through governmental agencies for several months – both the city of Newton and Harvey County directed staff to pursue federal aviation grants in July of last year.
