Newton Kansan A hot, dry summer has meant good things for the Newton Municipal Pool – like beating 2023’s attendance numbers with about two weeks left in the summer swimming season.“It has been a good year, it has been a lot of work, but it has been good,” said Bart Peace, assistant superintendent of the Newton Recreation Commission which operates the Newton Municipal Pool. The pool saw 12,891 swimmers by the end of July, well above the 11,881 number for the same time a year ago. That came after multiple heat waves that pushed the temperatures well above 100 degrees – which, Peace said, actually slows down traffic at the city pool.“It gets above 100, and you would think everyone wants to swim,” Peace said.
