Recently I was cleaning out the basement. Or trying to; having lived in this house since 1976, our basement has many distracting things in it. Anyway, early on I came across a manila envelope with some photographs of and a couple of newspaper clippings about Wayne Rogler, a prominent Flint Hills rancher, and that ended the basement cleaning for that day.
A grass fire that jumped NW 24th street has led to the closure of walking and hiking trails in Harvey County West Park. The grass fire torched pastureland south and west of Harvey County West Park, starting south west of the park near River Park Road on May 3.
With just one meet remaining before state, the Newton High School girls’ swimming team looked to improve its position after a third-place finish Thursday at the Newton Invitational II at the NHS pool. Great Bend won the nineteam meet with 227 points, followed by Marion (Marion, Peabody-Burns, Hillsboro and Centre) at 219, Newton at 216, Maize South at 193 and Maize at 161.
