Tozier Wins Scholarship Elaina Tozier, daughter of Christopher and Rebecca Tozier was awarded The Citizens State Bank scholarship on May 9 at the Hesston High School Academic Awards program. Tozier plans to attend Kansas State University in the fall and will study accounting and finance.

Plains Folk: The legacy of Pioneer Bluffs

As I read over my last column, I realized it was as much (or more) about me as it was about Wayne Rogler, so I’ll try to correct that this time. Wayne’s grandfather, Charles, was seventeen when he immigrated to the United States from Austria in 1853, and in 1859 he walked from Iowa to Chase County, Kansas. There he took out a homestead claim of 160 acres along the Southfork River. His father, John, came over a year later and settled a couple of miles south of Charles. Charles married and had five children.

Railer track sends 12 to state

ANDOVER – The Newton High School track teams will send 12 athletes in 10 different events Friday in the Class 5A state track regional meet at Andover Central’s Jaguar Stadium. The Newton boys placed in fourth in the team standings, while the girls were fifth.
