Nelson, Brubacher, Ramos claim thirdplace medals WICHITA — The Newton High School track team had some surprises Friday and Saturday in Class 5A competition at the KSHSAA State Championships at Cessna Stadium in Wichita. Newton claimed five medals in state competition.
Helen Sailor joined a number of her friends on May 26 at the Wayne G. Austin American Legion Newton Post 2 to help prepare for Memorial Day. She’s spent nearly every Friday morning before Memorial Day since 1971 at the post, helping make poppy sprays for the graves of veterans in Greenwood Cemetery.
WICHITA — Berean Academy and Moundridge each claimed an individual winner at the Class 2A state track championships Friday and Saturday at Cessna Stadium in Wichita. In the boys’ team competition, Inman won the team title at 51 points, followed by Garden Plain at 48 and Chase County at 45.
WICHITA — A freshman made quite a bit of noise for the Hesston High School track team at the Class 3A state championships Friday and Saturday at Cessna Stadium in Wichita. Ashley Lehman claimed four medals and hit for the cycle — winning the state title in the 400-meter dash in 56.53, taking second in the 200-meter dash in 25.85, taking third in the pole vault at 11-0 and taking fourth in the 100-meter dash in 12.62.
