DERBY — The Newton High School girls’ soccer team awoke a sleeping giant in the second half, but still held on to a 3-2 win over Derby Tuesday night in Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I play at Panther Stadium. The game was slated to be played on grass at the Derby soccer complex, but was moved to the artificial turf field because of the weather.
When school starts up again in the fall, Walton will be without a school for the first time since 1871. On a motion by Andrew Ortiz, seconded by Brenna Haines, the board voted 4-3 April 24 to close the elementary school at the end of this school year.
