HESSTON — Registration is open for the 32nd Emma Creek Women’s 5K run April 29. The race starts and finishes at Hesston High School and draws between 500 and 700 runners annually.
Newton girls take second at Valley Center track meet
VALLEY CENTER — The Newton High School girls’ track team placed second and the Railer boys took third Thursday at the Valley Center Invitational. Bishop Carroll won the girls’ team competition with 228 points, followed by Newton at 129 and Andale and Valley Center tied for third at 116.

WICHITA — The Bethel College softball team fell to Friends 7-0 and 15-0 Saturday in KCAC play in Wichita. The second game was called after five innings on the eight-run rule.

For months the Newton City Commission has reviewed water and sewer rates, mulling over a combination of budget cuts, rate increases, fund transfers and early bond payments to create a solution to keep the water and sewer departments from going into debt.
Coin mining operation rezoning denied
A bitcoin mining operation in the southeast corner of Harvey County will have to move following a decision March 28, nearly bringing a year of debate to a close. On March 28 the Board of Harvey County Commissioners denied a request for a zoning change from A-1 Agricultural to RDS Rural Development Services for Butler Rural Electric Cooperative, Inc.
