Cold shooting Thresher women fall to Bethany

By Mark Schnabel Newton Kansan The Bethel College women’s basketball team had stretches where it was able to challenge Bethany, but 37 percent shooting was too much for the Threshers to overcome in an 8668 loss to the Swedes Wednesday in KCAC play at Thresher Gym. Bethel finished the game 22 of 59 from the field, six of 21 from 3-point range and 18 of 23 from the free throw line.

The word for Byrd II is steals

Two things happened to the Bethel College men’s basketball team Wednesday night against Bethany in KCAC play at Thresher Gym — the Threshers rallied from 16 points down to claim an 83-77 win over Bethany and fifth-year senior Clifford Byrd II claimed the all-time steals record set last year by Jaylon Scott. Byrd II finished the game with 23 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and seven steals.

Cries for help pour into 988 mental health, suicide line

HYATTSVILLE, Md. (AP) — When Jamieson Brill answers a crisis call from a Spanish speaker on the newly launched national 988 mental health helpline, he rarely mentions the word suicide, or “suicidio” Brill, whose family hails from Puerto Rico, knows that just discussing the term in some Spanish- speaking cultures is so frowned upon that many callers are too scared to even admit that they’re calling for themselves.
