Veterans Day is celebrated on November 11 and pays tribute to all American veterans - including the living and deceased - but especially thanks the living veterans who served honorably during war or peacetime, according to History.com.
Sacrifice is a big part of serving in the United States military. Active duty personnel spend significant time away from their families, and many who have served overseas return home with injuries that affect both their physical and mental well-being. As the nation commemorates Veterans Day, individuals and organizations can take steps to honor the sacrifices millions of veterans have made on behalf of their families, friends and neighbors who call the United States home.

TOPEKA(AP) — Republican Kris Kobach revived his political career by winning the Kansas attorney general’s race after two big losses tied to his national reputation as an immigration and election law provocateur. Kobach, a former two-term Kansas secretary of state and co-chairman of former President Donald Trump’s controversial voter fraud commission, defeated Democrat Chris Mann, a former police officer and local prosecutor making his first run for elective office.
TOPEKA (AP) — Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly hoped to win a second term in Republican- leaning Kansas, with her close race turning on how many independent and moderate GOP voters stayed with her after lifting her to victory four years ago. Kelly was the only Democratic governor running for reelection this year in a state carried by former President Donald Trump in 2020. Republican challenger Derek Schmidt, the state’s three-term attorney general, tied Kelly to President Joe Biden and blamed the two Democrats for high inflation.
