In the garden: Harvesting Horseradish

What goes better with prime rib? Horseradish of course! It may have received its name from its pungent flavor being capable of knocking over a horse, but horseradish is a condiment capable of clearing sinus cavities and savored in sauces for seafood, pork and beef dishes. Horseradish is a true perennial in the garden along with rhubarb and asparagus.

Free workshops on tap to outline pesticide safety procedures for agriculture workers

OLATHE – Kansas State University officials have announced a series of free workshops to provide training that will reduce the risk of illness or injury to agriculture workers who are exposed to pesticides while on the job. Cal Jamerson, a K-State Research and Extension produce safety extension associate based in Olathe, said training is available in Manhattan, Olathe and Wichita in early December for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Worker Protection Standard pesticide safety training sessions.
