Ownes: Vote Yes on both constitutional amendments

There are two constitutional amendments on the ballot for November. They really haven’t received much media coverage, so I wanted to take a moment and share with you what they do and why I support them both. First, HCR 5014 is an amendment to allow legislative oversight of the state agency rules and regulations process that has been used to make laws without going through the legislature.

Railer soccer team hits late for win

Back in early September at the Titan Classic, the Newton High School boys’ soccer team was able to score early against the Derby Panthers and hold on for a 2-0 win. Tuesday at Fischer Field, Newton waited until the final 11 minutes of play to score against the Panthers, claiming a 3-0 win in AV-CTL I play.

CREP Regulations, Industrial Wind Turbines A special Harvey County Commissioner’s meeting is planned for Thursday, October 13th, 6:30 p.m., at the Meridian Center. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss and act on recent CREP revisions approved by the Harvey County Planning and Zoning Board.

Farm Bureau Insight: The rural impact

Featuring scenes that have become more and more routine in recent years, summer in the northern hemisphere saw extreme heat and wildfires in many places, as well as torrential rains and colossal floods that washed away the products of human settlement in others.

Kermit Omer Ratzlaff

Kermit Omer Ratzlaff, Hillsboro, Kansas, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2022, at Parkside Home in Hillsboro at the age of 100. Kermit was born December 26, 1921, in the Hillsboro Hospital to Jonathan J and Marie Plenert Ratzlaff.
