Erlene (Ewy) Farr

Erlene (Ewy) Farr died on October 5, 2022 at age 84. She was born 0n March 13, 1938 in Newton, KS She was preceded in death by her parents, Waldo & Sarah Ewy and her brother, Marvin Ewy. She is survived by daughters Tracy (Steve) Blake and Vicki (Jeff) Smith, both of Derby; grandsons Eli (Sara) Shunatona and Brett (Samantha) Smith; brothers Harold (Joan) Ewy of Camdenton, MO; Ralph (Cheryl) Ewy of Moore, OK; and sister Karen (Richard) Suenram, Syria VA; as well as 7 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on October 11, 2022 at Woodlawn United Methodist Church at 10am. A memorial has been established with Woodlawn United Methodist Church, 431 S Woodlawn Blvd, Derby KS 67037.

Eight-Man I, District 4 Moundridge 42, Solomon 34 SOLOMON — Henry Hecox rushed for four touchdowns and passed for a fifth in a 42-34 Moundridge win over Solomon Friday in Eight-Man I district play. Tied 22-22 at the half, Moundridge outscored the Gorillas 14-0 in the third quarter, adding another score early in the fourth quarter.

That’s the result of the park department spending a year or so using the wood chip in a different way - rather than chipping it to the public pile.

Rec hosts Tae Kwon Do

Newton Recreation Center recently hoste a Pre-School Tae Kwon Do class, for children ages 4 and 5. The s class is an introductory Tae Kwon Do class taught by Dany Monares emphasizing discpline, courtesy, and respect while helping develop motor skills Tae Kwon Do is a Korean style martial art, which literally means the “hand”, “foot”, “way of life.” Monares ends each class with a Korean fable.

Hesston Road project heads to final stage The Hesston Road resurfacing project will soon progress to its fourth and final stage, as work moves inside the Hesston city limits. The third stage of road work was focused northwest of Hesston, from West Dutch Avenue to Northwest 108th Street.
