The Newton High School volleyball team opened Ark Valley-Chisholm Trail League Division I play against fourth-ranked (KVA, Class 5A) Maize South at Ravenscroft Gym. Playing a college-style dual meet, Newton was downed in straight sets, 25-10, 25-23, 25-17.
The Kansan Staff HESSTON — The Hesston College golf team opened the season with a fourth-place finish Monday and Tuesday at the Fall Kickoff at Hesston Golf Course. Hastings College won the tournament at 875, three strokes ahead of Barton County.
