Brakes pumped on Old gas station plans

Brakes were put on the application for a zoning district amendment an old gas station property at 400 East 8th by the Newton Planning Commission Sept. 12 - but the concept for the use of the old building has not run out of gas. First constructed in 1955, the station made use of U.S. 50. Before the highway was diverted and combined with Interstate 135, it snaked its way through town. New owner Janice Stubby is attempting to pump new life into the building - wanting to create a small event venue.

Wichita decriminalizes fentanyl test strips, ditches city charges for marijuana possession

The Wichita City Council passed a city ordinance that decriminalizes the possession of fentanyl test strips and removes the city’s municipal courts from charging people with possessing marijuana. While no one has been arrested for possessing fentanyl test strips by Wichita police officers, more than 750 cases go through the city’s courts annually for marijuana possession — adding to the caseload for the Sedgwick County district attorney’s office.
