Davids touts federal funds for lead line replacement

The locations of lead service lines seem like the sort of thing someone would know, U.S. Rep. Sharice Davids said Thursday. But as cities and counties across the U.S. grew, water utilities didn’t keep track of them all. Now, they’re finally required to find them. The Environmental Protection Agency’s updated lead and copper rule requires utilities to create a lead service line inventory by October 2024. Inflation on vehicles hits county government

The Consumer Price Index pegged inflation at 8.5 percent for July when comparing prices from 2021 to 2022. Vehicles, however, have seen higher price increases during that time. The CPI reported an inflationary rate of 10.4 percent for new vehicles - something that is being felt by local governments as they attempt to replace vehicles. Harvey County is feeling that pinch, having dealt with supply chain and production issues dating back at least two years as attempts have been made to purchase vehicles for multiple departments. The most recent attempt, a bid to replace a pickup truck for the parks department, provides an example of how chip shortages, logistical problems, production problems and inflation have created a struggle.
