EMPORIA — The Newton American Legion Post 2 Knights baseball team headed into the final week of the season with a pair of wins over Emporia Monday night at Soden’s Grove. Newton won the first game 11-0 and the second game 13-3.
“Farm to Fork” has focused on bringing city and farm folk together since its inception in 2016, by offering all the chance to eat locally grown foods while touring where some of it is grown. “Everything we serve at dinner is produced in Butler County,” said Tiya Tonn, Butler County Farm Bureau Association county coordinator and Farm to Fork chair.
Jeriah Plank, a soon-to-be sixth-grader from Halstead, spent the first day of her week hanging out with students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology - learning how to do 3D printing. “The most fun part was getting to design,” Plank said.
In June, the European Union passed legislation requiring all mobile devices to use one specific port type (USB-C) for recharging their batteries. US Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) , Ed Markey (D-MA), and Bernie Sanders (I-VT) think that’s a great idea, and that the US should adopt it as well.

HAYSVILLE — The Newton Sluggin’ Rebels opened a four-game series against the Haysville Aviators with an 11-1 loss Tuesday in Sunflower Collegiate League play in Haysville. Down 3-1, Newton gave up six runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth inning.
Hesston College names coach HESSTON – Hesston College named Thomas Gaskell as the head men’s soccer coach. He is currently the head women’s coach at Hesston and will continue in that position.
Loretta Carol Sauerwein, age 64, after a long battle with cancer, died Thursday, July 7, 2022 at her Newton residence. She was born on December 30, 1957 in Anthony, Kansas to Vlastislav and Louise (Anton) Sheen. On September 12, 2009 she married Terry Sauerwein in Newton, and he survives of the home.
