Kansas is facing a severe shortage of licensed child care providers, according to a recent report released by state and nonprofit agencies. Estimates show that less than half of the “potential demand” in the state is being met.
“Micro-grants” by the Newton Et Cetera Shop will mean $500 for each of about 12 non-profits, and for one, the near completion of a fund-raising goal. “We have been fundraising for the Imagineers [mural restoration] since last November and this grant places our efforts at 94% of goal,” said Constance Gehring, treasurer of the Newton Murals & Arts Project.

National attention has turned, once again, to the gun debate following the horrific events at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas last month.
