MANHATTAN — Some two-out defensive miscues in the fourth inning was too much for the Halstead High School baseball team to overcome in a 9-0 loss to Bishop Ward Thursday in the first round of the Class 3A state tournament at Tointon Family Stadium in Manhattan.
Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States, established to remember and honor those who died while serving in the military. In most local communities, remembrances are not limited to soldiers buried there but rather, flowers are placed on the graves of family and friends as well. I have always taken the time to honor this service and sacrifice of soldiers of the United States of America by finding a story to share of one such life, but first some facts.
Carl Tangeman was born 200 years ago, in a region called Prussia located in what is now Germany and Poland. As war broke out and life there became unlivable for the Tangeman family, they emmingrated to the new world.
