School makes a lasting mark

I’m writing to recognize a very special place in the Newton community. Apple-A-Day, the preschool located inside Newton Presbyterian Manor, turns 30 this year. I’m a parent of two former Apple-A-Day students and one current student and can attest to the school’s lasting mark in the lives of young people.

Swathers third in 3-2-1A PRAIRIE VILLAGE – The Hesston High School boys’ tennis team ended the season with a third-place team finish and a pair of doubles medals at the Class 3-2-1A State Tournament at the Harmon Park Tennis Center in Prairie Village. Wichita Collegiate won the team title with 52 points.

Gold Rush

On Friday the 13th Sunset Elementary students went through a Gold Rush experience - panning for and mining “gold” on the school lawn. Students were able to turn in their earnings for items they may need to take the frontier.

Kelly uses veto authority to reject infectious disease, Medicaid and election bills

TOPEKA — Gov. Laura Kelly signed a bill allowing autonomous vehicles to operate on Kansas roads and vetoed legislation restricting public health officials’ response to all infectious disease outbreaks, a mandate imposing a nobid contract for Medicaid services and limitations on the executive branch’s enforcement of election law.
