Dragons split road twinbill with Cheney

CHENEY – The Halstead Dragon baseball team went on the road Monday to claim a non-league split against Cheney at the Cheney Sports Complex. Halstead won the first game 8-5 and dropped the second game 14-13 in eight innings. “We’ve been doing that a lot,” Halstead coach Danny Driskill said. “We’ve split every one except one. We did well to fight back (in the second game). It’s just one of those things. Baseball is baseball. It seems like game ones have gone our way and game twos have gone like those tonight.”

Joan Marilyn Welfelt

Joan Welfelt passed away April 11, 2022 at her home in Montrose, Colorado. She was born in Halstead, Kansas August 1, 1923 to Roderick O. Moore, Sr. and Mable (Windmiller) Moore. She is the youngest of three children and was raised on a farm northeast of Mount Hope, Kansas. During the Great Depression, they moved to Florida, California and Wichita, Kansas to find work.

Ross Michael Scheffler

Ross Michael Scheffler was born on March 31, 1949, in Newton, Kansas to parents Art and Catherine Scheffler. Ross was an outdoorsman, and enjoyed hunting and fishing from a young age. He especially enjoyed hunting with his Dad, brother and uncles. Ross loved to bow hunt and was an excellent marksman.
