A project to reconfigure parts of Centennial Park and renovate others has been slowed over the course of the last year as bids for the project have not been under budget. A new bid for the project will be in front of the city commission April 12, and that bid will, again, be over the budget already approved.
Many high school seniors dream of making a splash entrance to the Senior Prom - as a result the entrance is lined with classic cars, limos and vehicles designed to turn heads. For the 2022 Newton High School prom, a pair of seniors executed an entrance that was roughly 13 years in the making - Clayton Smith and Cody Eye turned heads like few are able to do on a night that saw nearly 400 tickets to prom purchased to the first prom at the Wild Prairie Event Center.

The death penalty is an antiquated and barbaric method of punishment in any case, regardless of whether the offender is clearly guilty. But in cases in which there is any doubt, the state’s urge to kill is particularly grotesque. Yet the state of Texas is poised to execute a woman who in all likelihood did not commit the crime for which she was sentenced unless radical action is taken before April 27, the day Melissa Lucio is scheduled to die.
