One of the best seasonal vegetables to grow is asparagus. Asparagus is a hardy perennial that will last for 30 years or more in the garden. Plant asparagus near the side or edge of the garden where it will not interfere with annual tillage. Asparagus is one of the first crops harvested in the spring.
The annual Student Art Exhibit at Bethel College is now open, featuring the work of 52 students in a variety of media. The show’s reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m.
In 2002, Music Theatre Wichita launched a program called the Jester Awards to honor excellence in high school musical theater. In its 20th year, Newton High School earned four nominations for their work on the fall production of “The Wizard of Oz.”
George “Chip” Westfall has served on the Harvey County Commission for nearly 16 years, and is now ready to do something else. “I am announcing that at this time, I will not seek a fifth term as County Commissioner for the Harvey County First District Commissioner seat,” Westfall said as the county commission meeting opened on Tuesday.
The Harvey County Commission did not discuss COVID-19, much, at its April 19 meeting. During departmental reports the commission learned that the county is seeing a “bump” in cases, according to county health director Lynette Redington.
Changes coming to Wheatridge, Paddington This week traffic signals at Wheatridge and South Kansas were placed into “full flash” mode, scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday to allow for contractors to being work on the median of Kansas Avenue April 21.
