Amish Cook: Breakfast is the Whole Enchilada

Breakfast menus are on my hit list. What is better than fresh, steaming pancakes or buttery biscuits straight from the oven topped with sausage gravy? My mom had a breakfast specialty: Gold Rush Brunch, which she would make with layers of scrambled eggs, sausage, cheese sauce and shredded potatoes. Then there were those rare occasions when we children cheered with delight when she made an egg in a nest for each of us. Some morning we had homemade or store boughten cereals. To us, homemade chocolate cake and chopped strawberries was a hit with almost any cereal.

Kansas man pleads guilty in death of 3-year-old daughter

KANSAS CITY (AP) — A man has pleaded guilty to killing his 3-year-old daughter, whose body was found in a wooded area of Kansas City, Kansas, in July 2020. Howard Jansen III, 30, pleaded guilty last week to second-degree murder, three counts of aggravated endangerment of a child, one count of abuse of a child and one count of interference with law enforcement, KSHB-TV reported.

Newton girls edged by Cougars

The Newton High School girls’ basketball team had its chances against Salina South, but struggled with turnovers and fouls, falling 40-36 Friday in AV-CTL I play at Ravenscroft Gym. Newton outscored the 6-12 Panthers 34-30 from the field, but was outscored 10-2 from the free throw line.
