Bethel College tops 2020 with better year in 2021
The year 2020 was Bethel College’s year in a lot of ways — conference titles in multiple sports, along with postseason success. The year 2021 saw Bethel meet or exceed those lofty finishes in a year replete with national competition.

This week flocks of Canada and White Geese have been congregating on the south side of Newton, during migrations. Newton Medical Center, Spring Lake and a retention pond near the sewage treatment plant on SW 14th have been popular places for flocks to congregate — and at least one of those places wants the attention.

K-State studying use of equipment to crush seeds of herbicide-resistant weeds in grain fields
TOPEKA — Researchers at Kansas State University are participating in a study to determine whether technology developed in Australia could be an effective deterrent in Midwest crop fields to growth of pigweeds, feral ryegrass and other unwanted plants resistant to herbicides.
Maxwell jury might work on New Year’s
NEW YORK – Jurors deliberating the fate of Ghislaine Maxwell at her sex trafficking trial were told Wednesday they would have to work through the New Year’s holiday after they inquired about that possibility – the latest sign that a verdict was not near in the monthlong trial.
Possible ‘tsunami’ has WHO chief concerned
BERLIN – The head of the World Health Organization said Wednesday that he’s worried about the omicron and delta variants of COVID-19 combining to produce a “tsunami” of cases, but said he’s still hopeful that the world will put the worst of the pandemic behind it in 2022.
KDHE reporting 10,000 delta cases, two dozen omicron cases in Kansas
TOPEKA — Testing confirmed emergence in Kansas of more than 10,000 cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 and documented 25 instances of the Omicron mutation, while public health reports showed more than 1,000 hospitalizations and 250 fatalities linked to the virus so far in December.
