Goessel 60, Kinsley 14

GOESSEL — The Goessel Bluebirds returned to play after two weeks off to stop Kinsley 60-14 Friday in the Eight-Man Division I playoffs in Goessel.

The game was called in the third quarter on the 45-point rule.

Goessel was led by Jake Wiens with 105 yards rushing and four touchdowns. Kacen Smith rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown. Luke Wiens rushed for 62 yards and a score. Grant Bryant only threw four passes, but one was a touchdown strike to Nate Zogleman for 21 yards.

Wiens returned a punt for a touchdown. Zogleman had an interception.

For Kinsley, 5-4, Peyton Schmidt hit five of 16 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown and an interception. Schmidt rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown. Levi Taylor caught a pass for a score.

Goessel is 4-3 and plays Friday at Pratt Skyline. Skyline is 8-1 after a 52-6 win over Pretty Prairie.

Hugoton 26, Hesston 23

HESSTON — A comeback bid for the Hesston Swathers fell three-points short in a 26-23 loss to Hugoton Friday in a week nine wild card game on the road.

Hesston trailed 26-7 at the half.

Hugoton was led by Sawyer Harper, who hit 19 of 34 passes for 258 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Harper added a rushing touchdown. Haden Daharsh caught six passes for 132 yards and two touchdowns. Riggs Martin rushed for a touchdown.

Hesston’s Hudson Ferralez hit 19 of 38 passes for 246 yards and four interceptions. Ben Bollinger had six catches for 152 yards and a touchdown. Brayden Schilling added a touchdown catch.

Brady Cox returned an interception for a touchdown. Andrew Schmidt hit a 26-yard field goal.

Both teams end the season 4-5.
