BC produces 3 100-yard rushers in win over Sterling
STERLING — The Bethel College football team went on the road for the second straight week against a Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference contender and came away a winner.
The Threshers downed Sterling College 51-21 Saturday at Smisor Stadium in Sterling to improve to 3-0 overall and in the KCAC this season.
It was the 26-0 second quarter that put the Threshers over the edge. The Bethel defense scored two safeties in the game — tackling Carl Schofield II in the end zone in the first quarter to take a 9-7 lead, and making another tackle in the end zone in the second quarter.
Logan DeMond hit field goals of 30 and 25 yards.
The Threshers racked up 394 yards rushing with three 100-yard carriers. Camryn Harrison returned to the lineup to collect 137 yards and seven carries with a score. Chantz Scurry added 105 yards on 22 carries with a score. Kayden Christiansen picked up his first 100-yard game for the Threshers on 12 carries.
Mason Murray ran for just 42 yards on four carries, but two of those were for touchdowns. Zach Esau was held to 25 yards on 12 carries with a touchdown. Esau also hit three of six passes for 46 yards and a touchdown. Tanner Galliart caught the touchdown pass.
Sterling was led by Chance Whitehead with 81 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns. Whitehead hit eight of 12 passes for 52 yards and an interception. Schofield II hit six of nine passes for 58 yards. Alexander Harbour added 40 yards rushing on four carries with a touchdown.
Bethel held a 41:55-17:32 advantage in time of possession. The Threshers came away empty on just three possessions — a punt, lost on downs late in the fourth quarter and the final possession of the game.
