stop Avila

Alayna Wallace scored a goal with an assist to lift the Bethel College women’s soccer team to a 2-1 win over Avila Friday night in KCAC play at Thresher Stadium.

Katy Ponce scored the game winner for the Threshers in the 59th minute.

Avila, 1-1 overall and in conference play, was shown two red cards.

Avila took the lead in the 17th minute on a Megan Nugent goal. Wallace tied the game in the 25th minute.

Bethel outshot the Eagles 12-4, 5-2 on goal. Mariah Vallejo had one save for the Threshers. Abby Neuweg had three saves for Avila.

Bethel snaps an 0-4-1 streak dating back to last season. The Threshers are 1-1 overall and in KCAC play and travel to Bartlesville, Okla., at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 19 to face 2-0 Oklahoma Wesleyan, ranked 21st in the NAIA.

Muhammed Jammeh scored on a cross from Cristobal Goldberg to lead the Bethel Threshers to a 1-0 win over the Avila Eagles Friday night in KCAC play at Thresher Stadium.

Bethel outshot the Eagles 18-3. Dylan Deason had three saves for Avila, 0-1-1. Sean Holness didn’t have a save in goal for Bethel, but did pick up the clean sheet.

Bethel, 2-0, is off until Sept. 19, when the Threshers face Oklahoma Wesleyan at 8 p.m. in Bartlesville, Okla. OWU is 1-0 and ranked fifth in the NAIA.
