Hesston 14Usplits games

The Hesston Swathers 14U baseball team split a pair of games against Newton teams Monday night in Newton.

Hesston fell to the Newton Railers 13U 8-7, but beat the Newton Railers 14U 13-3.

Against the Newton 13U team, Hesston led 6-3 after five innings and added a run in the top of the sixth. Newton scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth to claim the win.

Niko Ramos and Taylor Rickard each went two for three hitting for Newton with two RBIs. Nate Barron went two for four.

For Hesston, Beau Warden and Layne Clark each went two for three hitting with two RBIs. Gunnar Lewis and Aedan O’Halloran each went two for three.

Barron faced one batter in the top of the sixth for the win. Starter Oliver Smith struck out eight.

For Hesston, Lewis went four innings, striking out three. J. Burkholder took the loss in relief.

Against the Newton 14U squad, Hesston led 4-3 after two innings and pulled away with five runs in the third and four more in the fourth.

Josh Koehn went the distance for Hesston, allowing three hits and striking out two.

Warden went three for three hitting with five RBIs. Clark went two four two with two RBIs. Blake Hansen also drove in two runs.

For Newton, Andrew Ebaben took the loss pitching, striking out three. Kale Degenstein and one other player also pitched.

Hesston is 3-8.

The Railers 14U team is 6-14 and play the Blue Crew at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Genesis Sports Complex in Goddard.

Swathers 10Udowns Haven

HESSTON — The Hesston Swather 10U baseball team downed Haven 13-0 Monday in Hesston.

Haven was held to two hits.

Hesston is 2-3-1 and hosts Halstead at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Newton 8Uteams clash

The Newton 8U-Smith team downed the Newton Baseball Club 8U-Weeks team 13-4 and 16-6 Monday night at Washington Road Park.

The Weeks team is 0-7 and plays at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Towanda.
