Newton Medical Center (NMC) announced Dec. 2 that it will become NMC Health, effective Jan. 1, 2021. This change comes as the organization prepares to expand services throughout Harvey County and surrounding communities.

“This is more than just a new name. What it means to the organization and improving the health of our community is truly exciting,” said Board of Director Chairman Willis Heck.

Under the continued ownership of Newton Healthcare Corporation, NMC Health will more accurately reflect the broad-reaching health system Newton Medical Center has become, as well as help individuals identify the continuum of care provided by the organization.

According to President and Chief Executive Officer Val Gleason, there has been a “two year journey” leading to the change of name.

“At NMC, we stand on the shoulders of greatness with Axtell Christian Hospital, Bethel Deaconess Hospital and all of the amazing employees and medical staff who have served our community since 1887,” Gleason said. “When we merged hospitals and became Newton Medical Center, it allowed for a generation of growth that was so effective, we outgrew our own name. As NMC Health, we are ushering in the next generation of healthcare and growth. NMC Health more clearly defines who we are, what we’ve become, and what we stand for – improving health.”

The new name and logo reflect the history of the organization as Newton Medical Center with the initials “NMC,” while showcasing the purpose of the organization and its growth into a broad-reaching system for healthcare with “Health.” In addition, the iconic NMC logo mark which incorporated portions of the two merged hospitals’ logos into a stylized cross or letter “N” will continue to be used with a new look.

The new name is also paired with a new tagline, “Your Health. Our Focus.” According to a new release, the tagline was chosen as a reminder to patients and the community that NMC Health “not only exists to serve their health needs, but is also committed to living up to the vision it adopted in 2019, ’to improve health.’”

NMC is an 103-bed hospital located at the intersection of I-135 and Highway 50, and 10 primary care and specialty clinics. NMC’s services and specialties include emergency medicine, surgical services, rehabilitation, occupational medicine, home health and more.
