This is homecoming week for Newton High School — a week that looks a little bit different than years past due to COVID-19.

This year there will be no parade, nor dance at the conclusion of the week. The week began with a performance of the marching band streamed to Facebook live from the main entrance of the school.

Newton will host Maize South for football at 7 p.m. Oct. 2. Newton will also host senior night for gymnastics in a dual with Emporia at 11 a.m. Oct. 3. Cross Country will host the annual varsity/junior varsity invitational at 9:30 a.m. Oct. 3 in Centennial Park.

The school named the homecoming court this week. Queen candidates include Alonda Valle, Axeneth Ramos, Madyson Groves and Makaylee Ybarra. King candidates include Ben Schmidt, Griffin Davis, Jason Catache and Luke Schmidt.

Azeneth Ramos is one of four candidates for homecoming queen.
