One woman remains hospitalized after an incident left her with severe injuries leg in the 700 block of E. 11th Street in the morning hours of Sept. 4.

Police were called to Newton Medical Center to investigate when a woman was dropped off with multiple leg injuries including fractured leg bones, broken kneecaps and head injuries.

“This is still under investigation,” said Lt. Scott Powell with the Newton Police Department. “... We believe this happened over time. There were new injuries and old injuries.”

Police were able to speak with the victim and begin an investigation, however, she was transported to a Wichita hospital and placed in ICU.

She remains in ICU and is intubated.

“We have to let her wake up and have a better conversation with her,” Powell said.

Gilbert Gonzalez was arrested on a charge of attempted murder in the second degree, intention and booked into the Harvey County Jail. He has been formally charged with aggravated battery.

“It will depend on what happens with her status,” Powell said.
