Chef Katie will host a Comedy Night at 7 p.m. Aug. 29 at the Meridian Center

The show will feature Wichita comedians Travis Cagle and Jeremy Joseph.

Tickets are $20 per person and will include dinner and the show.

A portion of the proceeds will be used to benefit educators.

GOP headquarters to host rally

The Harvey County Republican Party, along with the Kansas State Republican Party, is hosting a “Pop up 4 Trump” rally from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Aug. 28 at its headquarters, 423 North Main, Newton.

Included in the festivities is the 2020 grand opening of the Harvey County Republican Party headquarters. Trump signs will be available for purchase. Representative Stephen Owens will emcee a lineup of speakers from around the state.

Peace lecture planned

Sarah Smarsh, author of "Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth," will be the featured speaker for the KIPCOR Peace Lecture Series.

The event will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 17 in Memorial Hall at Bethel College. General admission tickets are $15 in advance and available at https://tinyurl.com/y4jlmfgf/.

Tickets will be available for $20 at the door.

Live music planned

Moxie Bar & Grill, 1420 Old Main, has three live music performances coming up in the days ahead.

Folk in the Flow will perform at 10 p.m. Aug. 22.

Ian Gingrich will perform on the piano from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 26.

Dangie will perform at 9 p.m. Aug. 29.

There will be no cover charge for any of the performances.

County board to meet

The Harvey County Board of Commissioners will meet at 9 a.m. Aug. 25 in the community room of the Harvey County Courthouse, 800 N. Main.

Agenda items include insurance policies, aerial photography and the solid waste management plan.
