What was to be the third annual Sand Creek Summer Daze Festival in August has been canceled.

“In the best interest of public health and fiscal responsibility the Sand Creek Summer Daze executive committee made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 festival, which had been planned for Aug. 14-15 in Athletic Park,” said Meoldy Spurney, with the Newton Convention and Tourism Bureau, in a news release.

Festival chairman Greg Hanson said the decision was made to best protect the health of the community and also ensure that the festival remains financially strong as it moves forward. Sponsors who had already committed to the 2020 festival will be contacted soon.

According to the new release, the festival committee is planning for an expanded event in 2021 and will share more details this fall. According to the festival website, the theme will be Back to the Eighties.

The festival, started in 2018, hosts multiple stage concerts and individual music performances in addition to festival event like and volleyball, cornhole or life-size human football tournaments.
