Cruise night collecting donations for Safehope

Newton Saturday Night Cruising, what was once COVID-19 Cruising, is putting together a special cruise this weekend.

On July 11 cruise participants, and others, can bring non-perishable foods to donate. All the food collected will be given to Safehope and the The Resiliency Center.

Safehope provides services to domestic violence victims, including operating a safe house for those in need of a place to stay when they flee their home.

“Safehope is also in need of men's, women’s and children's clothing in good repair,” said cruise organizer Beth Usselman. “Many folks leave with the clothes on their backs. Toiletries for men and women. Pots and pans and similar items to help in setting up new housing for victims of abuse.”

The Resiliency Center, born out of grant funds following a workplace shooting in Hesston, provides mental health services to victims of mass violence.

Cruise organizers will collect food from 7 to 8:30 p.m. July 11 in the parking lot at 320 N. Main.
