KWU adds men’s

volleyball

SALINA — Kansas Wesleyan announced the addition of men’s volleyball for the 2021-22 school year.

Kansas Wesleyan would be the second Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference school to add the sport, joining Ottawa. Also sponsoring the sport in the state is Central Christian College. Newman University formerly sponsored the sport, but later dropped it.

There are currently 48 schools in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics that sponsor the sport.

KWU names

eSport coach

SALINA — Kansas Wesleyan named Jonathan Freemyer as its eSports head coach.

Freemyer has served as an assistant baseball coach, recruiting coordinator and admissions counselor at KWU.

Freemyer served as an assistant baseball coach at Northwestern Oklahoma State, where he also played baseball.

"I've met with the student-athletes and can already tell the passion and dedication they have for this program," Freemyer said. "That along with the amazing facilities we have here at Kansas Wesleyan, and the growing popularity of esports in general, make me excited for what's to come for this program. I see this program as a big opportunity to attract students to Kansas Wesleyan, but also as an inclusive space where students with similar interests can connect on campus. I look forward to working with this group of students and competing at a high level."
