BC men’s

league set

The Bethel College men’s soccer league has opened registration for the 2020 season.

The league is open to players high school age and older.

Play will be from 5 to 10 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays from July 13 to 29.

Because of the COVID-19 outbreak, the following precautions will be taken:

• There will be a screening process for every player to have their temperature taken and logged before entering the stadium to play.

• Teams will play on Mondays and Wednesdays to keep the same amount of games total but limit the number of players on the field at the same time. That means there will be 15 minutes in-between games. This ensures that teams will have plenty of time to arrive and leave without to many people crossing paths.

• Only participants will be allowed on the field. Spectators will have to watch either outside the gated area of the field or in the stands.

• Players will be required to enter on the southeast side of the field and exit on the southwest side of the field.

• Balls and benches will be disinfected before and after each game.

More information and registration is available at https://playpass.com/BethelCollegeAthletics/bethel-college-summer-league-a16410.

Broncos sit

out season

EL DORADO — The El Dorado Broncos became the second member of the Sunflower Collegiate Baseball League to sit out the season because of the COVID-19 outbreak.

The decision was made earlier this week.

According to the team’s release, "It is with great difficulty that we announce that we are canceling our 2020 baseball season. I want to thank all of the fans, volunteers and host families for your dedication and loyalty to this organization."

The Newton Rebels were scheduled to play a four-game series against the Broncos from June 30 to July 3 (including one date at Eck Stadium in Wichita). A replacement opponent has not been determined at this time.

The Andale Warhawks also decided to sit out the season, but were replaced on the schedule by a new team, which as yet has been unnamed, but will play its home games in Cheney.

The Broncos began play as the Hutchinson Broncs in the 1970s. The team moved to Wichita in 1985, changing the team’s name to the Broncos. After 10 seasons in Wichita, the team moved to El Dorado in 1996.

The Broncos joined the Sunflower League last season after the Jayhawk League disbanded.

The Broncos/Broncs have won five NBC World Series title, the last in 2009.

The 10-team Kansas Collegiate League also suspended play this summer. The five-team Mid-Plains League, which has three Kansas teams, but is not affiliated with the National Baseball Congress, plans to play a shortened season beginning June 15.

According to csbn.com, 22 college summer leagues (both affiliated and unaffiliated with the NBC) have canceled their seasons. There are 12 teams listed as active and 35 leagues that are under delay.

As of now, the NBC World Series is scheduled to be played, but dates, the number of teams, venue and format is subject to change.
