MOUNDRIDGE — The Berean Academy girls’ basketball team held off the Moundridge Wildcats 51-36 Friday in Heart of America League play in Moundridge.


The Warriors jumped out 12-5 after the first quarter. Moundridge got within four at the half, 21-17, but Berean made a 15-9 third-quarter run to take command.


Brooke Wiebe led Berean with 12 points.


Erin Durst scored 11 points for Moundridge.


Berean outscored Moundridge 18-9 from the free throw line.


The Warriors are 12-6, 6-2 in league play, and plays Tuesday at Bennington.


Moundridge is 8-10, 3-4 in league play, and plays Ell-Saline Tuesday in Brookville.

Chloe Stanley led Bennington with 11 points.


Taylinn Lacey led Sedgwick with five points.

GOESSEL — The Goessel Bluebird girls fell to Herington 44-35 Friday in Wheat State League play in Goessel.


Goessel trailed 20-16 at the half and was outscored 13-4 in the third quarter.


Carrie Roe led Herington with 16 points. Tristyn Kremeier added 11.


Elizabeth Schmucker and Porclein Unruh each scored 11 points for Goessel.


Herington is 9-7, 6-3 in WSL play. Goessel is 3-14, 2-6 in WSL play. Goessel hosts Rural Vista at 5 p.m. Monday in a make-up game, followed by Tuesday at the Classical School of Wichita.

GOESSEL — Dylan Lindeman scored 23 points, including his 1,000th career point, to lead the Goessel Bluebirds to a 60-33 win over Herington Friday in Wheat State League play in Goessel.


Goessel led 38-18 at the half.


Jacob Hagewood added 11 points for Goessel. Skyler Wuest scored 10 points.


Craig Rutchman scored eight points for Herington, 5-11 overall and 3-6 in league play.


Goessel is 12-5, 7-1 in WSL play, and plays at 6:30 p.m. Monday in a home make-up game against Rural Vista. Goessel plays Tuesday at the Classical School of Wichita.

MOUNDRIDGE — Chase Wiebe scored 29 points to lead the Berean Academy Warriors to a 53-41 win over Moundridge Friday in HOAL play.


Berean used a 16-8 second quarter to lead 26-20 at the half. The Warriors led 41-31 after three quarters.


Corbin Unruh led Moundridge with 16 points. Landon Kaufman added 11.


“Kids played hard again tonight,” Moundridge coach Vance Unrau said. “Five or six possessions decided this game and some of those were in the first half. We executed at both ends of the floor the way we wanted. Berean is a very good team with athletes at every position and good shooters. We have three more regular season games to build some momentum heading into substate. I really love how these guys play hard for each other and do what we ask. Still a lot to play for.”


Berean is 18-0, 8-0 in league play. The Warriors can claim the league title outright Tuesday with a win at Bennington.


Moundridge is 7-10, 3-3 in league play. Moundridge plays Tuesday at Ell-Saline.

SEDGWICK — The Sedgwick Cardinal boys rebounded from their first Heart of America League loss by stopping the Bennington Bulldogs 66-17.


Sedgwick led 39-12 at the half.


Kale Schroeder led Sedgwick with 13 points. Connor Tillman added 11.


Tyler Stanley scored 10 points for Bennington, 5-12 overall and 2-6 in HOAL play.


Sedgwick is 9-6, 4-1 in league play, and hosts Hutchinson Trinity Tuesday.

The Newton High School junior varsity girls’ basketball team fell to Derby 23-9 Friday in Ravenscroft Gym.


The game was shortened to one half as Newton did not have enough players to play a full game followed by varsity play.


Newton jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but Derby replied with a 16-0 run.


Newton plays Tuesday at Campus.
