SIOUX FALLS — LeVon Washington hit an RBI double with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Sioux Falls Explorers to a 9-8 win over the Wichita Wingnuts.

It’s the second straight game the Wingnuts dropped on a walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth.

Wichita opened the game with four runs in the top of the first. T.J. Mittelstaedt hit a three-run triple. Brent Clevlen hit an RBI single.

The Explorers countered with five runs in the bottom of the first. Tyler Ogle hit a two-run home run, followd by a solo shot for Eudor Garcia. Joe Bennie and Dre Gleason each hit an RBI double.

In the bottom of the second, Jace Ray hit an RBI single. Garcia drove in a run on a fielder’s choice.

Wichita scored in the fourth inning on a wild pitch. Wichita tied the game in the top of the eighth on a Brennen Salgado RBI single and an error.

Tony Campana put the Express ahead in the bottom of the eighth on an RBI double. Mittlestaedt tied the game with an RBI single in the top of the ninth.

Ogle went three for five hitting for the Express. Tanner Vavra went two for three. Gleason went two for four. Campana, Bennie and Garcia all went three for five.

Mittelstaedt went three for four for Wichita. Clevlen and Salgado went two for four.

P.J. Francescon (3-2) got the win in relief for Sioux City.

Mike Devine (2-4) took the loss for Wichita.

Wichita is 43-27 and maintains a 14-game lead over Cleburne with 30 games remaining. Sioux City is 35-36.

Wichita plays Sioux City at 7:05 p.m. today and 6:05 p.m. Sunday.
