WICHITA — The Newton Dirtbaggers 13U baseball team dropped a pair of games Monday at the Westurban baseball complex.

The Dirtbaggers fell to the Riptide 11-1. Joel Franz had two hits. Caleb Koontz and Jake Schmidt each pitched. Schmidt struck out three.

The Dirtbaggers lost to the Wichita Aeros 8-2. Owen Mick had two hits. Schmidt and Ben Crawford each drove in a run. Joe Slechta struck out four in four innings.

The Dirtbaggers are 7-22-1.

G2 Heat 18U

wins six games

The G2 Heat 18U softball team finished 6-0 at a tournament Saturday and Sunday.

The Heat opened play with a 1-0 win over the Lawrence Phenix. Payton Bergkamp struck out six and allowed three hits in the win. The Heat won on a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

The Heat then beat the DC Attack 4-2. Katelynn McBurney pitched a complete game, striking out one and allowing three hits. Jonna Adams drew two walks.

The Heat beat the Eagles 6-2. Sky Werner had two hits. Kearstin Pittenger drove in two runs. Bergkamp pitched the win, allowing five hits.

The Heat beat the Fore Power 8-3. Trinity Ensminger had two hits with two RBIs. Pittenger also drove in two runs. McBurney struck out two in the win, allowing three hits.

Sunday, the Heat beat the Lawrence Phenix 2-1 twice. In the first game, McBurney and Payton O’Donnell each drove in a run. McBurney tossed a two-hitter for the win, striking out two.

In the second game, the Heat scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth for the win. McBurney had three hits with an RBI. Kerrigan Simons also drove in a run. Bergkamp pitched a four-hitter, striking out two.

The Heat are 8-3 this season.

Wingnuts drop

game to Texas

WICHITA — Ryne Willard hit an RBI single with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to lift the Texas AirHogs to a 4-3 win over the Wichita Wingnuts Tuesday in American Association play at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Weems finished the game two for four with three RBIs.

Wichita, 26-12, has a three-game winning streak snapped. Texas improves to 11-27.

Harrison Kain and Brent Clevlen each hit a solo home run for Wichita in the bottom of the first inning. Brennen Salgado hit an RBI single in the sixth.

The AirHogs tied the game in the top of the seventh on a three-run Weems home run.

Willard finished two for four hitting. Trevor Sealey went two for five.

Kain, Clevlen and Martin Medina each had two hits for Wichita.

Jacob Morris threw two scoreless innings in relief of J Russell for the win. Luis De La Cruz pitched the ninth for the save.

Seth Harvey took the loss in relief of Ryan Kussmaul and Mike Devine. Kussmaul struck out 10 in 6 2-3 innings. Devine struck out two in 1 1-3 innings.

Wichita remains 7 1/2 games ahead of Cleburne, which fell to 4-35 Salina 8-7, giving the Stockade its first back-to-back wins since joining the league this season.
