WICHITA — Recent Newton High School graduate Brookelynn Entz scored six goals in two games to lead the FC Wichita women to a pair of wins in Women’s Premier Soccer League play at Stryker Complex in Wichita.
Saturday, Entz scored two goals in a 2-0 win over the FC Dallas U23 squad. Sunday, Entz scored four goals in a 6-0 win over FC Tulsa Spirit.
The wins put FC Wichita at 5-3-1, moving into third place in the WPSL Southwest-North standings.
Coming off an injury in the high school season, Entz has played just three games with FC Wichita, a second-division women’s semi-professional team in its first season. She will play for Kansas State in the fall.
Against FC Dallas U23, she scored in the 31st minute and the 37th minute.
“Brooklyn is very intelligent,” FC Wichita assistant coach Aaron Avila said. “Simple directions and putting her in 1-v- 1 situations, that’s what fits her personality. I’m glad it really worked out for us today.”
Against FC Tulsa Spirit, Entz scored just before the end of the first half, in the 51st minute, the 53rd minute and 71st minute. Jazmin Hartshorn and Page Achey also added goals for FC Wichita.
FC Wichita ends the regular season at 7 p.m. Saturday in Norman, Okla., against Oklahoma City FC. FC Wichita downed Oklahoma City FC 8-0 at the Stryker Complex to hand Oklahoma City FC its sole loss of the season.
FC Wichita is in third place in the division, one point behind FC Dallas and Oklahoma FC.
WICHITA — The Wichita Wingnuts opened a homestand against the Texas AirHogs with a 10-2 win Monday night in American Association play at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Wichita broke the game open early, leading 8-0 after four innings. Texas scored a run in the fifth and another in the ninth. Wichita scored a run in the sixth and another in the seventh.
Richard Prigatano went three for four hitting, driving in three runs. Brent Clevlen went two for three with two RBIs. Leo Vargas also drove in two runs. Harrison Kain hit a solo home run. T.J. Mittelstaedt and Martin Medina each added an RBI. Brennen Salgado was two for three hitting.
Alex Boshers (5-2) pitched eight innings, allowing six hits with a walk. Jared Wilson pitched the ninth.
Austin Kubitza (0-1) took the loss for Texas.
Trevor Sealey and Levi Scott each had two hits for the AirHogs. Sealey and Jake Taylor each drove in a run.
Wichita is 26-11, winning three straight, while Texas is 10-27. Wichita holds a 7 1/2-game lead over Cleburne in the AA South.
Wichita and Texas meet at 7:05 p.m. today.
STRINGER HONORED — Wichita second baseman Christian Stringer was named the American Association player of the week for the week ending Sunday. Stringer was 14 of 26 hitting for the week with nine runs scored, four RBIs and four walks He moved his batting average up 58 points to .299.
