GODDARD — The Newton High School softball team dropped a pair of games to Goddard Eisenhower Friday in non-league play.
Newton lost the first game 15-5 in six innings on the 10-run rule and lost the second game 20-0 in three innings on the 15-run rule.
In the first game, Eisenhower scored in every inning. Newton scored a pair of runs in the first inning and three in the fifth.
Natalie Haywood had four hits and three RBIs for Eisenhower. Ashley Rediger had four hits and five RBIs. Lizzy Losey had four hits.
Reagan Treffer drove in two runs for Newton.
Zoe Stonehouse took the loss for Newton. Haywood struck out three in four innings. Lindsey Dexter pitched two innings with a strikeout.
In the second game, Eisenhower scored nine runs in the first inning and 11 in the second. Newton was held to three hits with five errors. Eisenhower had seven hits and no errors.
Rediger, Jayden Vosburg and Faith Denning each drove in three runs.
Haywood pitched for Eisenhower, striking out two. Kylie Terbovich took the loss for Newton.
Newton is 1-19 and opens regional play next week.

NICKERSON — The Halstead High School baseball team split a pair of games Friday in Central Kansas League play at Nickerson.
Halstead won the first game 8-2 and lost the second game 9-4.
Nickerson took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning of the first game, but Halstead came back with two runs in the third, a run in the fourth and five runs in the fifth. Nickerson added a run in the bottom of the sixth.
Dalton Kraus had three hits and drove in three runs for Halstead. Chase VanSteenburg added three hits with an RBI. Lane Boswell had two hits with an RBI.
Layke Heimerman went the distance on the mound for Halstead, allowing six hits and striking out three.
Josh Salazar struck out four in 4 2-3 innings for Nickerson. Cameron Crandall struck out a batter in 2 1-3 innings.
In the second game, Nickerson trailed 5-4, but scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Each team scored a run in the sixth.
Cameron Crandall drove in three runs for Nickerson. Braden Stewart and Kolbi Schrag each had two hits.
Tony Morris had two hits with a home run and two RBIs for Halstead. Jonathan Fulghum drove in two runs.
Stewart pitched five innings for the win for Nickerson, striking out five. Crandall finished the game for the save, striking out three. David Schulte struck out three in five innings for Halstead. Kaden finished the game.
Halstead is 12-6, 12-4 in CKL play. Halstead hosts Haven-Fairfield at 4 p.m. today at Riverside Park.
