FC Wichita

sets friendly

WICHITA — The FC Wichita men’s soccer team will play a friendly with FC Minneapolis June 14 at the Stryker Soccer Complex in Wichita.

FC Minneapolis is a non-league professional team.

“We are pleased to begin a relationship with FC Minneapolis that we believe will continue to grow,” FC Wichita CEO Blake Shumaker said. “They operate a bit out of the norm, and we liked their unique vision. They see great value in doing day to day business without league mandates and regulations. Most top professional leagues require clubs to play with limitations of a salary cap and a maximum number of international players under contract. So they are seeking friendlies against teams that they feel can help their players be identified in the states.”

According to the release, Wichita FC will field a professional side for the men in 2018, and could face FC Minneapolis. The current team is non-professional and would continue as well. The organization also fields a women’s side, which begins play this season.
