WINFIELD — The Bethel College men’s soccer team claimed a 3-0 win Saturday at Southwestern College in Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference play.

Dakota Steuber scored two goals for the Threshers, finishing a breakaway in the 62nd minute and heading in a pass from Earnie Jordan Jr. in the 69th minute.

Jesus Alba started the scoring with a penalty kick in the 11th minute.

Bethel held a 16-11 advantage in total shots. Kobi Russom had five saves in goal for the Threshers for the clean sheet. Parker O’Quinn had seven saves in goal for the Moundbuilders, 1-5. Bethel improves to 2-6, 1-1 in KCAC play. The Threshers host Saint Mary at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Joe W. Goering Stadium.

STEUBER HONORED — Dakota Steuber was named the KCAC offensive player of the week for the week ending Sunday. A freshman from Gardner, Steuber scored three goals in two games. Bethel was 1-1 for the week.

WINFIELD — The Bethel College women’s soccer team fell to Southwestern 3-0 Saturday in KCAC play in Winfield.

The Threshers trailed 1-0 at the half. Karrie Nutt scored a goal with an assist for the Moundbuilders, 5-4 overall and 1-1 in KCAC play. Rylee Simon and Keetley McLachlan each added a goal. Mariz Munoz had an assist.

Bethel was outshot 24-7. Kimberly McLaghlin had 12 saves in goal for Bethel. Courtney Jones and Olyvia Bish each spent a half in goal for Southwestern with three saves each.

Bethel falls to 3-5, 0-2 in KCAC play. Bethel hosts Saint Mary at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Joe W. Goering Field.

The Bethel College volleyball team fell to Ottawa in three sets Saturday at Thresher Gym.

Bethel fell 25-17, 25-12, 25-13.

Janaya Fox had 12 kills for Ottawa, followed by Caitlin Doran and Avery Enzbrenner with 10 each. Adriana Skipper set 34 assists. Jordan Hasley served two aces. Jordan had 13 digs, followed by Augusta Sinclair with 12. Doran downed five blocks.

For Bethel, Shaela Jenkins had five kills. Avery Myatt set 14 assists. Taylor Buessing had 16 digs. Katie Neira downed two blocks.

Ottawa improves to 14-5 and stays atop the KCAC standings at 9-0. Bethel drops to 0-12, 0-10 in KCAC play. The Threshers open the second half of conference play at 7 p.m. Wednesday at home against Saint Mary.

Garden City

HESSTON — The Hesston College women’s soccer team swept the regular-season series against Garden City Community College, winning 5-2 Saturday at the HC soccer field.

The win was Hesston’s sixth straight. The Larks move to 10-1 overall.

Tied 2-2 early in the second half, Allison Ebersole scored three goals in a five-minute span. Mika Matsuda scored a goal with four assists. Kenzie Johnson scored a goal. Miho Matsuda and Christy Kauffman each had an assist.

Kelly Ramirez and Sierra Rivera each had a goal for Garden City. Ruth Estrada had an assist.

Hesston outshot the Broncbusters 16-7. Cassidy Bontrager had five saves in goal for the Larks. Leslie Salcedo had eight saves for Garden City.

The Larks host Hutchinson Community College at 7 p.m. Friday.

HESSTON — The Hesston College men’s soccer team gave up five goals in the first half, falling to Garden City Community College 6-1 Saturday in Hesston.

Alexis Lopez scored two goals for Garden City. David Amaro scored a goal with two assists. Felipe Andrade, Gilberto Tovar and Marcus Fernandez each added a goal.

Guershon Safari scored a goal for the Larks with assists from William Mendez and Zach Stauffer.

John Avalos had five saves in goal for the Broncbusters. Luke Hertzler had 18 saves for Hesston.

The Larks fall to 2-7-1 and play Cloud County Community College at 2 p.m. today at the HC field (note time change).

HESSTON — The Hesston College volleyball team split a pair of matches Saturday at Yost Center.

The Larks downed the Friends University junior varsity in three sets — 25-12, 25-9, 25-18; and fell to Barton Community College in four sets — 25-23, 24-15, 23-25, 25-16.

Against Friends, Kortney Cunningham had 11 kills. Jessanna Nebel and Jessica Aguilar each set 14 assists. Nebel and Aguilar each served two aces. Emily McMichael had 10 digs. Cunningham downed five blocks.

Against Barton, Nebel had 10 kills with 14 assists. Aguilar set 15 assists. Sierrah Long had 15 digs, followed by McMichael with 14, Ally Vogt with 11 and Nebel with 10. Haley Unruh and Alicen Meysing each downed three blocks.

Hesston is 9-10 and hosts Labette Community College at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Goessel wins

at Canton-Galva

CANTON — The Goessel High School volleyball team won the Canton-Galva Invitational Saturday in Canton.

In pool play, Goessel downed Little River 25-10, 25-7; Wichita Home School 25-4, 25-12; and Sunrise Christian Academy 25-13, 25-12.

In the semifinals, Goessel downed Wheat State League rival Solomon 25-12, 25-16.

In the championship match, Goessel downed Halstead 25-11, 25-8.

Goessel improves to 26-1 and hosts Herington and Rural Vista today to close out league play.

Halsted plays today at Hesston with Hoisington.
