PRATT — The Newton Dirtbaggers reached the quarterfinals of the National Baseball Congress Hap-Dumont 12U state tournament in Pratt.

After a 1-1 finish on Friday, the Dirtbaggers downed the Pratt Lil 86ers 10-9. Joel Franz had two hits. Brayden Monares drove in two runs. Joe Slechta pitched five innings, striking out two. Jake Schmidt struck out one.

The Dirtbaggers downed the Valley Center Warriors 2-0. Schmidt drove in both runs in the game. Dylan Petz struck out four in three innings. Luke Hirsh pitched two innings.

In their final game of the tournament, the Dirtbaggers fell to the Midwest Stix 12-1 in quarterfinal play. The Stix scored 10 runs in the first inning.

Schlecta had two hits for the Dirtbaggers. Schlecta also pitched for the loss.

The Dirtbaggers are 17-18 for the season.
