Avery Reidmiller allowed a run with two hits in eight innings to give the Newton Rebels a 6-1 win over the Wichita Warhawks Friday night in play at Klein-Scott Field in the Kansas Collegiate League.
Reidmiller walked two and struck out two. Mitchell Sparks pitched the ninth inning, allowing a hit with a walk.
Vincent Hill took the loss for the Warhawks, pitching four innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits with four walks and five strikeouts. Bryan Berner, Chris Luschen, Kory Haught and Matt Chapman each threw an inning.
Newton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a pair of singles with an error. A pair of singles, a park of walks, a bunt and a hit batter led to three runs in the fifth inning. A two-out error in the sixth inning led to another Newton run.
A pair of singles and a ground out gave the Warhawks their sole run of the game.
Dylan Brooks went two for four at the plate for the Rebels, driving in four runs. Kearon Redmon added an RBI.
T.J. Alexander had two of the Warhawks three hits. Rene Revera had an RBI in a pinch hitting role.
Results of the games between Newton and the Warhawks from Thursday in Maize have still not been reported.
Newton hosts the Hutchinson Monarchs at 7 p.m. today and the Park City Rangers at 6 p.m. Sunday in a doubleheader.
