The Bethel College men’s basketball team won its second straight game, stopping Kansas Wesleyan 82-75 Saturday in KCAC play at Thresher Gym.

Bethel trailed throughout the first half, down by as many as 12. The Threshers were down 39-28 at the half.

The Threshers kept chipping away at the lead in the second half, finally taking the lead with a Jaylon Scott 3-pointer with 6:01 remaining. Bethel extended the lead to as many as 10.

Garrett White led Bethel with 17 points. Terrell Marshall added 16 points. Poe Bryant scored 14 and Clifford Byrd II scored 12. Scott finished with 10 rebounds.

Brendon Ganaway led Kansas Wesleyan with 26 points. A.J. Range scored 17.

Bethel held a 37-29 rebounding edge. Bethel hit 19 of 29 from the field in the second half after hitting just 11 of 32 in the first. KWU went from hitting 15 of 27 in the first half to 10 of 25 in the second.

Kansas Wesleyan falls to 14-8, 11-7 in KCAC play.

Bethel is 17-7, 12-6 in KCAC play. With six games remaining, the Threshers are in fourth place in the conference, two games behind leader Ottawa. The top eight teams advance to the KCAC post-season tournament with the top four teams claiming first-round home games.

Bethel goes on the road this week, taking on Bethany at 8 p.m. Wednesday. Bethel downed the Swedes 86-79 earlier this year in North Newton. Bethany is 9-14, 6-13 in conference play, after a 72-52 win over Saint Mary.

The Bethel College women gave up a 23-17 fourth quarter to fall to 24th-ranked (NAIA II) Kansas Wesleyan 67-55 Saturday in KCAC play at Thresher Gym.

The game was tied 14-14 after the first quarter. The Coyotes led 29-28 at the half and 44-39 after three quarters. Kansas Wesleyan was able to pull away by as many as 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Bethel was outscored 13-8 from the free throw line and 12-3 from 3-point range.

Remington grad Kelsey Hinz led KWU with 20 points, nine rebound and six blocked shots. Courtney Heinen scored 19 points. Amanda Hill scored 17.

Bethel was led by Abby Schmidt with 22 points, 18 rebounds and three blocked shots — her 13th double-double of the season and 41st of her career.

Kansas Wesleyan sweeps the regular-season series between the two schools and improves to 19-5, 15-3 in the conference. The Coyotes are one-half game behind Sterling for the conference lead.

Bethel falls to 11-13, 7-11 in KCAC play. The Threshers are tied for eighth in the conference with six games remaining. The top eight advance to the KCAC post-season tournament.

Bethel plays at Bethany at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Swedes are 17-7, 14-5 in the conference, after a 70-56 win over Saint Mary. Bethel downed Bethel 65-62 earlier this season.
