HESSTON — Karenna Gerber scored 23 points to lift the Halstead Dragon girls to a 48-37 win over rival Hesston Friday in CKL play in Hesston.

Halstead led 13-4 after the first quarter, 25-15 at the half and 38-20 after three quarters.

Elise Kaiser led Hesston with 14 points.

Halstead is 8-1, 1-1 in CKL play, and plays next week at the Eli J. Walter Invitational. Hesston is 6-3, 1-1 in league play, and plays this week at the Hillsboro Trojan Classic.

HESSTON – The Hesston College men’s basketball team won its ninth straight game, stopping Nationwide Prep 74-60 Saturday at Yost Center in Hesston.

The Larks led 34-29 at the half.

Jacob Baker led Hesston with 26 points. Reese Nebel scored 15 and Langston Flowers scored 10. Derrick Magiya had 13 rebounds.

Hesston is 12-5 and opens Jayhawk Conference play Wednesday at Fort Scott Community College.

BETHANY, Okla. — The Hesston College women’s basketball team fell to the Southwestern Christian University junior varsity 49-47 Friday in Bethany.

Hesston trailed 16-14 after the first quarter, but tied the game 29-29 at the half and led 43-42 after three quarters. Hesston was held to seven points in the fourth quarter.

Southwestern’s scoring was not listed.

Jordan Brakes led the Larks with 10 points. Caitlyn Phillips had 18 rebounds, while Sydney Bontrager added 16.
