Newton Dance Connections will be presenting a production of the Christmas classic “The Nutcracker” this weekend.
1. Collaborative efforts
Newton Dance Connections is a collaborative dance company co-directed by Bethel College Academy of Performing Arts' dance director Haylie Berning and Newton Performing Arts Center's owner Kari Hinkel that provides Newton-area dancers an opportunity to work together in their love of dance
2. Guest performers
This year's production will include guest artists from Chicago and Wichita State University, as well as professional dancers from Regina Klenjoski Dance Company. Regina Klenjoski Dance Company is a contemporary dance company that was based in Long Beach, Calif., from 1999 to 2015 and expanded to Wichita in 2016. The company now offers programming both in the greater Los Angeles and Wichita area.
3. A holiday classic
"The Nutcracker" is an 1892 two-act ballet, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The libretto is adapted from E. T. A. Hoffmann's story "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King," about a girl who befriends a nutcracker that comes to life on Christmas Eve and wages a battle against the evil Mouse King.
